Our Home at John Wayne Marina

The John Wayne Marina is a favorite harbor for boaters exploring the protected waters of Puget Sound or crossing the shimmering Strait of Juan de Fuca. Many travelers start their voyages from here to visit the world famous San Juan Islands, Victoria, British Columbia and other Canadian ports of call, or cruise the Inside Passage.

Featured in SEA Magazine as “Best of the West,” this cozy marina was constructed in 1985 on 22 acres of land donated by the John Wayne family. John Wayne frequented Sequim Bay waters aboard the family yacht – the “Wild Goose” – and prior to his death envisioned a marina in the scenic bay. Eventually, this vision became reality under the ownership and auspices of the Port of Port Angeles.

In addition to the Dockside Grill, the marina features Port offices, permanent and guest moorage, excellent marine services, showers and laundry facilities, a banquet room, fuel and maintenance services, and provides boat launch ramps, public beach access and picnic areas.

Located at Pitship Point (Longitude 123°02’18”W/Latitude 48°03’43”N) in Sequim Bay (approximately 18 miles east of Port Angeles), John Wayne Marina is easily accessible and transient moorage is usually available for those who wish to boat up to Sequim Bay and enjoy the weekend.

Birdwatchers rarely pass up a chance to check the bay. The surrounding area is home to Common Loon; Pelagic and Brandt’s Cormorants; Greater White-fronted Goose; Brant; Greater Scaup; Harlequin Duck; Barrow’s Goldeneye; Bald Eagle; Peregrine Falcon; Black-bellied and American Golden-Plover; Black Oystercatcher; Ruddy and Black Turnstones; Surfbird; Red Knot; Baird’s and Pectoral Sandpipers; Short-billed Dowitcher; Heerman’s, Bonaparte’s, Mew, and Western Gulls; Common Tern; Common Murre; Pigeon Guillemot; Marbled Murrelet; Rhinoceros Auklet; Tufted Puffin.

Its location, plus its top-notch amenities, has made John Wayne Marina a destination for boaters and non-boaters alike. Dockside Grill is proud to be a part of this historic and scenic area.

Our Chefs

Steve Little (owner, chef) and Josh Souza met in 1995, at Sir James in Merced, California where Steve took Josh under his wing to train him to be his assistant chef.  They have worked together in California, Oregon and Washington state. Best friends all these years, they were the Best Man at each others weddings and have raised their families together.

Steve and Josh have been recipients of numerous awards and accolades including 3-Stars in the 16th edition of "Best Places Northwest" while chefs at Old Mill Café in Carlsborg, Washington.  Newspaper polls voted the pair “Best of The Olympic Peninsula” for Best Steak, Best Gourmet, Best Seafood, Best Vegetarian, Best Dessert, while they worked at Xanadu Grill in Sequim, Washington.

Steve and Ruth’s son, Glenn Welch, started in the business by washing dishes at Sir James at 14 years old.  A quick study, he steadily rose to the position of banquet chef at The Crab House.  Glenn was a familiar face at Jardin du Soliel during the Lavender Festivals in Sequim.  He is now Assistant Chef working with Steve and line cook, Ryan Hitt each evening.

Our Restaurant

Dockside Grill opened its doors in 2007 as the only waterfront restaurant in Sequim.  We have received rave reviews for our food, wines, service and view.  In fact, we were the first Olympic Peninsula restaurant to be nominated in the “Best Steakhouse”  category by King 5 Evening Magazine’s “Best of Washington.”  Word around town is Dockside Grill is also the best place for seafood.

As your hosts, we appreciate our loyal fans who have followed us through the years and are always delighted to meet and impress newcomers to our establishment.  We appreciate your cards, letters and on-line reviews!

Our Staff

We love our staff and how they work so well together.  Each one is a team player with a positive attitude and we’re proud to have them as part of our family.
